Power chords are “movable chords” that can be played on different strings up and down the neck.
A power chord will also be written as a 5. For example G5 or B5. The letter indicates the string note name (or key of the chord) and the 5 means the perfect 5th of that key.
TECHNIQUE TIP – Push your fretting hand wrist forwards to make these chords sound cleaner. The index finger lays flat (but still only pressing down one note) and the ring finger pushes onto it’s tip.
You always play the root note then one string down and 2 frets across to make the power chord.
Power chords can be played on the top 5 strings but commonly they are played starting on the E,A and D strings.
