Main Points From The Lesson Above:
Now you know the blues scale you can transpose (change the key). To play in the key of G start on the 3rd fret of the E string and play the same pattern of fingers.
Learning NOT to just pick every note in your solo will add color and expression to your solos.
1: Slides – Slide up (higher sounding) and slide down (lower sounding). Slide to each note in the scale to get started.
2: Vibrato – This makes the guitar sound like a human voice. Think operatic singing. It sounds like a wobble of the note. Practice by bending up and down rapidly. Use vibrato when you’re holding long notes in a solo.
3: Hammer Ons + Flick Offs – A hammer on makes a higher sound as your hitting the string higher up the neck with your FRETTING fingers. A flick off makes a lower sound as your flicking away with your fretting fingers. Start by playing your G blues scale as hammer ons (going up the scale) and then flick offs as you go back down the scale.
4: Bends – There are many different types of bends but in this lesson we’re focussing on bending to a note in the scale.
In conclusion, start using some of these techniques in your solos. Jam along with the backing track in the key of G. You’ll quickly find your favourites. Enjoy.
