An accent is a louder hit on a specific beat or collection of beats. It doesn't sound like much when you write it like that, but they're very important to our rhythm playing.

They give your rhythm more of a lift and can add movement. Keeping all of your strums at the same volume level doesn't offer much variety. Learn to play with accents.

As you learn more about rhythm you will accent naturally.
