• Choose a song that means something to you. A song that you can never get tired of. You've got to be able to relate to the song and sing it like you mean it.
  • Choose a song that was meant to be played and sung at the same time. For example singer/songwriters such as Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Tracy Chapman, etc.
  • It shouldn't have any chords that you're not familiar with. We're trying to keep the guitar simple for your first song. I'd also make sure there's no barre chords, with the exception of the mini F barre chord.
  • The song shouldn't feel too fast for you.
  • The guitar part shouldn't contain any lead playing.
  • Have you already sung along to the recording? Make sure the singing fits your range. If you're voice is hurting or straining, then this song isn't for you.
  • Make sure the rhythm guitar is simple to play.

If you think the song you've chosen is too challenging for you then email me (drue@learnguitarinlondon.com) and I'll give you my opinion.
